MOT tests for cars and small vans at our Holme-upon-Spalding-Moor workshop. If it fails, we'll fix what failed and re-test it free of charge. Most local customers grab a courtesy car or use the free pick-up service - we'll come to you and bring it back.
The MOT, plainly explained.
The MOT is an annual roadworthiness and emissions check, set by the DVSA. Once your car turns three, it needs a fresh MOT certificate every twelve months for it to stay legal on the road.
We've been a registered MOT testing station since the workshop opened in 2012. Our testers are trained to the same DVSA standards as any main dealer - the difference is the price (£50, no upsell) and the fact you can get a courtesy car for the day at no extra cost.
We test cars, small vans and Class 4 motorhomes. The whole test typically takes about 45 minutes. You can sit in the waiting area, take the courtesy car, or let us collect and drop the car back when it's done - whichever suits.
If your car fails on something straightforward (a bulb, a wiper, a worn tyre, a cracked mirror), we'll usually have it fixed and re-tested the same day. The re-test is free if you let us do the repair work, which most people do because it saves them an extra trip and the repair prices are quoted up front.
What's checked on an MOT.
The MOT is a defined inspection - we don't make it up. Here's what the test actually covers.
- Brakes - discs, pads, lines and handbrake travel
- Bodywork, structure and corrosion
- Doors, latches and locking mechanisms
- Exhaust system and tailpipe emissions
- Visible smoke under load
- Horn, lights, indicators and reflectors
- Seats, seatbelts and airbags
- Steering and suspension
- Tow bars (where fitted)
- Vehicle identification and registration plates
- Wheels, tyres and tread depth
- Windscreen, wipers, washers and mirrors
What it doesn't cover: engine internals, gearbox, clutch, oil and filter changes. Those are servicing items - book those alongside the MOT and we'll do both in the same visit.
